Google Buzz doesn't need to be tied to Gmail, in fact it has been liberated for quite some time. Buzz Mobile is an application that runs independent of gmail on smart phones, and works well on your desktop too. ( drag the link to your tool bar for easy access )
Some interesting features of Buzz Mobile is Nearby users, and Map. The Map Layer allows satellite view, and looks to be a Latitude feature.
